The Andy Fund of Kingston
The Andy Fund of Kingston has retired after 24 years of actively raising funds for cancer-related projects. From now on, we hope that those wishing to support The Andy Fund will consider making donations to our growing “donor-designated fund” within the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area, called “The Andy Fund of Kingston Endowment Fund”. (Please see below for details about this.)
We retire with fond memories of our many fund-raising efforts over the years. We wish to thank our hard-working volunteers and our very generous donors and sponsors. Kingston has been wonderful in supporting us as we fulfilled our mandate of “raising funds for local cancer-related projects”.
Our last big effort, very dear to our hearts, was our pledge of $150,000 for a children’s playroom at the newly expanded Pediatric Oncology Clinic at the Cancer Centre of Eastern Ontario at KGH. This playroom will be named in memory of Andy George, who died of leukemia in 1983 at the age of 8, and for whom The Andy Fund is named.
Our legacy will be our Andy Fund of Kingston Endowment Fund within the Community Foundation for Kingston & Area. The interest from this fund will go to the Children’s Cancer Fund. This fund, at the Cancer Centre here in Kingston, helps families of limited means with the unexpected expenses that arise when a child is diagnosed with cancer – medication, travelling expenses, baby-sitting for other siblings and so on. We hope that those who have supported the Andy Fund in the past will remember this “donor-designated fund” when considering annual giving or In Memoriam donations.
Once again, our thanks to all – committee members, volunteers, donors and sponsors – who have supported us through the years. We look back with satisfaction at over $1 million we have raised for various projects. Andy would have been proud.
