Our society and our community face enormous barriers today - barriers having to do with loss and isolation, with violence and stress, with drugs and crime.

The cost to our society, to all of us, of not providing mental health services, is far greater than most of us realize.

A great deal of mental illness, and of the result of mental illness, is preventable.

Our campaign is about building stronger mental health services in our community.

It's one way we're enhancing our capacity to help kids and youth, families and seniors.

Please consider this your invitation to work with us in ways that work for you.

In 2006, we're emphasizing support for our youth.  Recently, concern over suicide in Canada - especially teen suicide - appeared in the news.  A call to do something went out from business and community leaders at that time.

    > Canada has the worst suicide rate in the industrial world.

    > More than 300 teens complete suicide each year in this country.

CMHA / Kingston provides a unique and effective program called Youth Alliance.  We also deliver suicide awareness, prevention and recovery services.  Our Suicide Bereavement Support Group supports people affected by suicide, including family members.

The branch receives funding from the United Way and through fundraising activities to deliver basic services in the community.  In order to deliver programs like Youth Alliance, we require the assistance of partners in the private and public sectors.

The annual golf classic, shared with Greater Kingston's Enhanced RIDE Program, is held in support of our youth and helps us to deliver these programs.

We would also like to provide services to seniors in our region and enhance services for children and families.
