H'ART SCHOOL'S NEW BOOK EMPOWERS ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES ACROSS CANADA TO CHOOSE HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

The 16-page resource book, featuring artwork by our students, will help people with intellectual disabilities and their caregivers begin a conversation about choice and healthy lifestyle.

The book was funded by the Government of Ontario and City of Kingston’s Healthy Communities Fund and developed with guidance from the KFL&A Public Health and the research of over 21 Queen’s University student placements.

It was inspired by the weekly Move and Lunch Club that began at H’art School in 2010. The Club encourages students to choose, and to shop for, healthy food items and to participate in making sandwiches their own way. The book shares this experience as well as tips, advice and exercise options.

Choice (ISBN 978-0-9781812-3-9) is available for review and order by contacting hartstudio@hotmail.com.

It is free for public health units and disability organizations across Ontario and Canada.
