Impressive numbers
Since the Kingston Operation Red Nose campaign was started in
1997, more than 7,701 rides have been safely completed by more
than 3,784 volunteers. To date, more than $137,702.56 has been raised
and donated to local literacy programs targeting youth. Last year's thirteenth annual campaign was a real success. A very generous 301 volunteers completed an astounding 558 rides during the 9 -night campaign.
Donations totalled just over $13,690.57 which was divided up between local youth programs including the Learning Disabilities Association of Kingston: Social skills program for children with learning disabilities, the Canadian Diabetes Association's Camp Banting program for children with type 1 diabetes, the Troupe Quiproquo: Festival Sears, the Club Optimiste Frontenac BFC: Programme Sécurité-Jeunesse, and the Centre culturel Frontenac: Élan-Jeunesse.
Nationally, Operation Red Nose has completed more than one million rides since the program started in 1984. About $1.1 million is donated annually to youth-related projects across the country.
Goals 2011
Operation Red Nose is operating for nine nights in 2011: Nov. 25, 26, Dec. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, and 31. We hope to recruit 300 volunteers and complete 600 rides. We also hope to gain the support of 100 sponsors who will donate $14,000 in cash and in kind gifts to help fund the campaign.
