Some have asked where I am from - a question for which I do not have a short answer. My dad is also a minister (in the Christian Reformed Church) and while I was growing up, he served five different churches, so during my childhood I lived in two communities in Ontario; two in Michigan; and one in Nova Scotia.

Upon graduation from high school, I went to University in Michigan, where I met my husband. We fell madly in love and were married at the year's end. We had our three children in the first three years of our marriage (not something that I recommend, without cautions). We have since lived in BC, Nova Scotia, Michigan and in the Ottawa Valley of Ontario.

Prior to studying for ministry, I was the co-owner/operator of a small business that offered drama programs for children, youth and a few for adults. We also presented workshops in schools. I did this for ten years and enjoyed every minute of it. When thanked by parents for the work we did with their children, I often remarked that the growth they saw in their children was due not so much to anything we taught them but rather due to the safe, encouraging environment we maintained. Children felt free to take risks there while they explored their creativity and developed their gifts.

About a decade ago I found a church community that did those very things for me. I was encouraged to use my gifts & creativity. I was given opportunities to plan and lead parts of the worship service, to create curriculums, to train Sunday school teachers in the use of drama, to design and lead small study groups and to create and lead women's retreats. I very quickly realized that I had been repressing a call to ministry for quite some time because the obstacles to achieving that goal seemed too great. Our minister affirmed my sense of call and encouraged me to step out in faith.

Once I began the discernment process (the first step to becoming a minister in the UCC), I spent a few years taking undergraduate courses at three different Universities. Ultimately I did my graduate studies at Queen's Theological College in Kingston from 2009 - 2012. I was ordained in May 2013.

It is my hope that at Glenburnie United Church we can create

I look forward to getting to know you.

Blessings on your journey!
