Who We Are
The Glenburnie UCW is a busy group of women who meet for fellowship, worship and fund raising. Would you like to meet and get to know the other women in our congregation? Come and share your ideas with us, or just come and enjoy good companionship.
Purpose
The purpose of the UCW is to unite women of the congregation for the total mission of the church, and to provide a medium through which we may express our loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian witness, study, fellowship and service.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to love God; to foster Christian faithfulness, spirituality, commitment and devotion; to promote love and respect by living generously and giving joyfully to all God's people; and to affirm and strengthen ourselves creatively.
Our Vision
As Christian women of faith we believe:
- We must nurture others spiritually, reaching out with commitment and devotion to all God's people.
- We must promote truth, justice, peace, caring and sharing with respect for all in community and the wider world.
- We must love God and others by living generously and giving joyfully.
- We must affirm and strengthen ourselves creatively in study and witness through music, laughter and solitude.
UCW Prayer
And now go with us, Lord,
Into the days ahead.
Strengthen us for peace,
Give us wisdom,
Keep us humble,
And may we live and work together
And so striving,
Build a new and better world of tomorrow.
50th Anniversary
In 2013 the Glenburnie United Church UCW celebrated its 50th Anniversary. To honour this occasion, a member of our UCW quilted a tapestry and wrote a poem.
The Tapestry of Love hangs at the front of our sanctuary. It honours the lives and work of the United Church Women. The gold thread reminds us of our UCW history - the sharing in the stories of our work - and gives luster and richness to the fabric of our tapestry. The blue thread speaks for our past, reminding us of the sky and water, and of God's Creation. Blue also means honesty and justice, and it adds colour and beauty to the fabric of our tapestry. Pure white thread speaks to the future - the untold story as we, under the leadership of God, move into the future. As we support and strengthen each other, so we intertwine our ideas and gifts and work as the hands and feet of God in the Church and the world. The woven cross appears open at all ends - and so it is with the tapestry of life. We continue to witness, study, enjoy fellowship and service.
The poem...
50th Anniversary United Church Women
Fifty years, have now passed by,
For this organization, our hopes are high.
Love has only four letters,
but can reach around the world.
We the women of the church,
reaching out with arms unfurled.
Our mothers before us planted seeds,
Working together, fulfilling needs.
With God's help, let's do our part,
Follow these footsteps, with loving heart.
In our tapestry of love, many stories are told,
Woven together with threads, blue and gold.
