Presbytery Update
With the passing of 2012 Kingston Presbytery passed into history. The new Presbytery, Four Winds Presbytery, in which Glenburnie United Church is located, became official with the start of 2013. Four Winds Presbytery consists of a part of Kingston Presbytery plus six charges which came from Belleville Presbytery. (Belleville Presbytery has also passed into history to be replaced by Kente Presbytery.) These changes are the outcome of the Boundaries Commission struck by the Bay of Quinte Conference in 2010 and accepted at the annual meeting of 2012. In the fall of 2012 eight implementation teams were assembled to organize the structure and operational model for the eight new presbyteries. Yes, eight (a change from the preceding seven), and yes, new. The implementation teams (iTeams) were directed to work on the basis that each new presbytery was indeed new. The iTeam for P7 developed a governance model that was presented and accepted at meetings in November, 2012. Names were suggested and the name Four Winds Presbytery was chosen by ballot of the presbyters present on 6 November.
The first official meeting of Four Winds Presbytery was the Covenanting Service. That service was held at 3:30 p.m. on January 13th, 2013, at Trinity United Church, Napanee.
